New Year’s Gala is held

Ushering in the new year, the NNU 2019 New Year Gala was held at the sports center of Xianlin campus on December 26, 2018. All the students and faculty gathered together and welcomed the coming of 2019. The president of NNU, Professor Guoxiang Chen, and the secretary of NNU Committee of the CPC, Professor Minqiang Hu, attended the gala.

On behalf of NNU’s Committee of the CPC and all the administrative departments, Professor Minqiang Hu firstly expressed his heartfelt thanks and sincere greetings to all the devoted leaders, faculty, and hardworking students. He gave a brief review of the work and achievements of 2018 as well and encouraged all the faculty and students to remain resolute and confident in the coming new year. Professor Guoxiang Chen named NNU’s top ten events of 2018 and noted that new progress has been made in such areas as discipline construction, the quality of talent training, scientific research and innovation, social services, international education, and the working mechanism of the party.

Then the big feast, the New Year’s Gala, came. The whole celebration included a variety of performances such as dance, Wushu, singing, instrumental music performances, gymnastics, and stage play, which showed the energetic and uplifting spirit of NNUers and the colorful campus culture came to life. The opening yangko dance, Welcome the New Year with Great Joy and the dancing of A Pomegranate-Red Skirt, Fragrant Tea and Velvet Flowers sent wishes to NNU for a bright future through their beautiful acts. An international student from Indonesia filled the gala with exotic features through her dancing, SAMAN. The singing of National garden, The Emperor of Qin Dynasty, I Love you, China, and Play My Favorite Lute conveyed the NNUers deep love to the country throughout the lyrics. The rhythmic gymnastics performance of This is Me and a wushu performance of Dragon were full of youthful energy and vigorous enthusiasm. A poetry reading, Drifting Clouds and Flowing Water was the best interpretation of NNU spirit and Ink.

Jiangnan, a Cheongsam Show highlighted the temperaments of the female teachers. A comic dialogue in Nanjing dialect, Nanjing Anecdotes made the audience burst into laughter and a Suona solo, A Song to Tough Guys, won warm applause from the audience. The lucky draw and voting also excited the audience. The progress of the gala gradually unfolded a living painting of harmony and energy. At the end of the gala, all the NNU leaders and the audience sang the NNU Anthem in loud and powerful voices pushing the festival to a climax and a perfect closing.
