Nanjing Normal University and Elsevier Engage in Collaborative Exchange
On May 22nd, 2025, the "Elsevier-Nanjing Normal University Collaborative Exchange Meeting" was held at NNU's Xianlin Campus. Elsevier and NNU engaged in in-depth discussions on how to accelerate the advancement of academic impact and global engagement. Li Lin, Elsevier’s Senior Vice President and President of Greater China, and Yuan Linwang, Vice President of NNU attended the meeting. Heads of the university’s Academic Discipline Office, Research Institute, and Library, along with representatives of highly cited scholars, also participated in the exchange.


Yuan Linwang extended a warm welcome to the Elsevier delegation and affirmed the outcomes of their previous collaboration as well as the value of the current exchange meeting. He pointed out that NNU, as a national "Double First-Class" university and one of the birthplaces of China's higher teacher education, is striving toward the goal of becoming a “distinctive, internationally influential first-class university”. At this stage, it is crucial to further enhance the international impact of its academic output and its level of global engagement. At present, the two sides have a solid foundation of cooperation in database and data analysis services, and he expressed hope for deepening collaboration in academic publishing, scientific research data management and analysis, and scholarly exchange activities. Such efforts would support discipline development and scientific advancement through data-driven insights and innovation, jointly promoting the international dissemination of research outcomes.

Li Lin expressed her delight in participating the collaborative exchange meeting and further appreciated the profound cultural heritage and high-level disciplinary development of NNU. From 2019 to 2024, the number of scientific research papers issued by NNU has continued to grow, contributing to a high level of scientific research output. NNU scholars have accumulated 22 articles in Elsevier's top journals including Cell and The Lancet, with multiple achievements cited in international patents and policy documents. More than 40 NNU scholars have served as editors for Elsevier journals, actively engaging in global science and technology governance. Relying on AI-powered research infrastructure, a global talent map and high-level academic forums, Elsevier will support NNU in building a first-class university with global influence and jointly writing a new chapter of empowering education through science and technology.
At the exchange meeting, Xu Jie, Deputy Director of NNU library, reported on the library's achievements in the digital transformation of resources, the acquisition of international academic resources, and the access of core journals from the perspectives of development goals, resource protection, and key initiatives. Subsequently, Deputy Director Chu Huiping gave a presentation titled "Exploration and Practice of Disciplinary Services at Nanjing Normal University Library", showcasing the library’s contributions in recent years to project applications, award applications, talent programs at various levels, and faculty recruitment. Liu Wanyong, Senior Regional Client Manager of Elsevier in Jiangsu, took "Elsevier's Support for the Integrated Development of Education, Science, and Technology Talent at Nanjing Normal University" highlighting Elsevier's recent developments in integrating high-quality academic resources, building AI analyzing platforms, and think-tank services, as well as its efforts in supporting NNU’s scientific research advancement and promoting global scientific research. Library Director Jiang Xiaoyun gave an overview of the library’s role as the key connection point between Elsevier and NNU, outlining a series of initiatives undertaken. She emphasized the library’s commitment to refining its service model and deepening the collaboration to support the university’s goal of becoming a world-class institution with global reach.
During the open exchange session, the leaders and guests engaged in in-depth discussions on topics of shared interest, such as the development of international academic platforms, AI empowerment, the construction of high-quality academic resources and journals, endogenous needs of disciplinary development, and international collaborative publishing.

At the meeting, Elsevier released the list of highly cited scholars from NNU and presented an award on site to Professor Cai Zucong of the School of Geographic Sciences.
