General Study on the Five Rites Proofread by NNU Professors Wins the Special Award of 10th China Publishing Group Award for Publishing

Recently, General Study on the Five Rites won a special award, the 10th China Publishing Group Publishing Award, its second award after it received the book award of the 5th Chinese Government Award for Publishing. The 262-volume book, published by the Zhonghua Book Company in November 2020, was completed by Huitian Qin in the Qing Dynasty and proofread by NNU professors Xiangdong Fang and E Wang from the School of Chinese Language and Literature.

The 10th China Publishing Group Award for Publishing has released its award list, which includes 10 special awards, 28 publishing awards, and 62 single awards. The award evaluation group prudently selected 100 fine works among over 30,000 publications published by the China Publishing Group since 2019, after 5 months of declaration, inspection for quality, initial evaluation, re-evaluation, and final evaluation that began in April 2022. The selected 100 masterpieces have played positive roles with outstanding contributions in sticking to the main themes of society, carrying forward the spirit of the times, spreading the Party's innovative theories, strengthening mainstream public opinion, satisfying people's spiritual and cultural needs, and enhancing the country's cultural soft power.

Since its publication, General Study on the Five Rites has received a huge response. On December 24th, in an article titled “A Document of Propriety”, Guangming Daily praised Professor Fang and Professor Wang for their 16 years of efforts in contributing to the publication of the book, which is also called the Encyclopedia of Ancient Chinese Etiquette System. Thus, “a sleeping treasure of Chinese ritual and music civilization has been found”. CPPCC Daily and China Reading Weekly successively published the book reviews by Professor Yongxiang Qi and Professor Fei Wu of Peking University and Professor Wanli Yu of Zhejiang University. They considered the proofread version accurate, the style standard, the text correct, and the words cross-referenced with other established work. Years of hard work by Professor Xiangdong Fang and Professor E Wang have made the classical ancient book “reborn”. Their concentration on academic research, dedication, and perseverance to the inheritance of Chinese culture are worthy of recognition and promotion.
