Application Guide for Chinese Government Scholarship “High Level Postgraduate” Program of Nanjing Normal University in 2026

    According to the notice on the application for the High Level Postgraduate Program of the Chinese Government Scholarship for the academic year 2026-2027, our university has formulated the application method for the High-level Graduate Program in 2026.The program is based on the principles of individual application, institutional recommendation, expert assessment and selection on the basis of merit, and selects international students with excellent academic background, professional ability and future development potential. The specific contents are as follows:

. Basic Requirements

  • Admission Category: Master students and doctoral students.
  • Study period: The study period for masters students is 3 years, and for doctoral students is 4 years.
  • Teaching language: Generally is in Chinese, some majors can offer English teaching (For more detailed information, please visit https://njnu.17gz.org/ ).

. Scholarship Coverage

  • Tuition fee will be waived, On-campus accommodation available;
  • Living allowance: Master students: 3,000 CNY/month

                        PH.D. students: 3,500 CNY/month

  • Comprehensive medical insurance: 800 CNY per academic year. During studies, scholarship recipients are required to purchase comprehensive medical insurance.

. Eligibility

  • The Applicant must be a foreign citizen, in good physical and mental health, friendly to China, and of good character;
  • Applicants applying for a Master degree must hold a Bachelor degree and be under the age of 35,with excellent academic performance;
  • Applicants applying for a Ph.D degree must hold a Master degree and be under the age of 40,with excellent academic performance;
  • Language proficiency requirements:
  • A. Applicants for programs taught in Chinese are required to provide proof of Chinese language proficiency.

Applicants for a Master degree need to provide valid score report of new HSK 5 (≥180) ;

Applicants for a Ph.D degree need to provide valid score report of new HSK 6 (≥180).

Applicants who have not met the Chinese language proficiency requirements above but have passed the new HSK 4 can apply for 1 year Chinese tutoring first. After meeting the Chinese language proficiency requirements for admission, applicants can study their majors.

B. Applicants for English taught programs are required to provide proof of their English proficiency.

An IELTS score of 6.5 or above, with no individual band score

lower than 6.0; or a TOEFL score of 85 or above, with at least 21 in writing, 18 in speaking, 15 in reading, and 15 in listening.Or provide proof that the previous academic degree was taught in English.

Note: HSK, IELTS, and TOEFL scores are valid for two years from the test date.

. Application Documents

  • Copy of Passport Home Page. (should be valid later than March 1st, 2027)
  • Notarized highest diploma. If the applicant is a current student, a certificate of expected graduation or an enrollment certificate issued by their school must be submitted. (If admitted successfully, the applicant must present their graduation certificate and degree certificate upon registration. Failure to do so will result in the cancellation of admission.)
  • Academic transcripts (from the undergraduate program onwards). Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be accompanied by a notarized translation in Chinese or English.
  • Proof of language proficiency. Such as HSK report, IELTS or TOEFL transcript.(refer to . Eligibility)
  • A study plan proposal. A study plan written in Chinese or English must be submitted, with a minimum of 1,000 words. The content should focus on the applicants motivation for studying in China, their understanding of China and the host institution, as well as the background of their previous educational institution, their academic background, research direction, and expected research outcomes.
  • Recommendation letters. Two letters of recommendation (written only in Chinese or English) from professors or associate professors shall be submitted. These letters shall describe the applicants objectives of learning in China, comprehensive abilities, and evaluation of future growth.
  • Students applying for music or art majors must submit their own works.
  • Non-criminal record report. The applicant shall submit a valid certificate of Non-Criminal record or commitment issued by the local public security authority, usually issued within 6 months prior to the submission date of the application.
  • Foreigner Physical Examination Record. The applicant should strictly follow the items required in the Foreigner Physical Examination Record. Forms missing items, not having personal photos attached, or not having saddle seals on the photos, signatures or seals from doctors and hospitals are invalid. The result is valid for only 6 months.
  • The Supervisors Acceptance Letter must include the supervisors handwritten signature.

Note: Any falsified documents will result in disqualification from applying to our university.

. Application Procedure

  • Before February 20, 2026, please log in to our universitys international student online service system: https://njnu.17gz.org/; fill in the application information online.
  • The preliminary review results and pre-admission materials will be sent to applicants via the systems internal messaging or email.
  • Students who have received the pre-admission letter from our university must log in to the Chinese Government Scholarship Information System before March 30, 2026.

    (log in to the website: http://www.csc.edu.cn/studyinchina, click on the Online Registration Student Entrance icon to enter and fill in the application information, then upload the scholarship application materials. When submitting the application, it is necessary to upload the pre-admission documents from Nanjing Normal University and the study plan signed by the supervisor. Choose program Type B. The agency number of Nanjing Normal University is 10319)             

. Notifications

  • All materials uploaded through the system (e.g: passport, diploma, transcripts, supervisors acceptance letter, etc.) must be clear, authentic, and valid. Any falsification, once verified, will result in the cancellation of the applicants admission eligibility.
  • If the applicant is a student studying in school, applicant must submit the Pre-graduation certificate or study certificate issued by  school (if successfully admitted, graduation certificate and degree certificate must be provided at the time of registration, if the applicant cant provide, the admission will be cancelled).
  • Please pay attention to the deadline of the online application system. The final admission decision is subject to approval by the China Scholarship Council. Our university will send the admission letter and other materials to scholarship recipients via email. Please ensure your email address is entered accurately and remains active. Failure to respond promptly to important notifications may result in missed opportunities, for which the applicant will take full responsibility.
  • Students granted with Chinese government scholarship are not eligible for other scholarships offered by Chinese governments at all levels and universities at the same time.
  • If admitted successfully, students will start studying in Nanjing Normal University in early September, 2026. The exact registration date is subject to the information provided in the admission letter.
  • Scholarship recipients are not allowed to change the institution, major, teaching language, or study duration specified in the Admission Letter.
