Ideological and Political Education (Teacher Education)
1. Program Description
Ideological and political education,which is a brand-specialty of Jiangsu province, belongs to Marxist Theory. It is based on two first level doctor’s degree authorization centers ,one second level doctor’s degree authorization center, four first level master’s degree authorization centers and more than twenty second level master’s degree authorization centers .It is characterized by long history 、profound academic background、abundant qualified teachers 、broad-caliber cultivation and graduates owning strong adaptability.
This program foster, primarily, students with high quality of politics 、morality and Marxist Theory ,who equip with fundamental knowledge of diverse disciplines such as philosophy , politics, jurisprudence、economics、sociology、management and pedagogy ,to be Ideological Workers having capacity of teaching Ideological and political Theory、working on moral education and participating in research and management at government offices as well as enterprises and public institutions.
2. Program Duration and Credit
This is a four-year undergraduate program, which can be completed within a minimum of three years and a maximum of seven years.
A total of 153 credits are required to the completion of the program.
3. Curriculum
Four modules of courses are offered for the program: Basic Curriculum, Essential Curriculum, Teacher Education Curriculum and Elective Curriculum. The Basic and Essential curricula are compulsory for a Bachelor’s degree.
The Elective Curriculum in the list includes extended disciplinary courses offered by the school into which an individual student is admitted, as well as cross disciplinary courses offered by other schools. Students can choose the extended and cross disciplinary courses according to their personal interests and career plans; however, credits should be approved by the School.

Prerequisites:
Principles of Politics is the basic course for ideological and political education major, the logic starting point of politics science training, and the theoretical presentation of the essential grasp of political phenomenon. Based on the analysis and research of the basic conception and the basic content of politics science such as state, regime, state system, government, parliament, congress, political party, nation, democracy, political culture, political behavior and political development, this book reveals the basic structure, basic characteristics and the regularity of the occurrence and development of political phenomenon and political activities, explores the internal mechanism of political phenomenon and political activities, and answers the questions “what is political phenomenon”, “why is it so”, and “what has to be done about it”. The content of Principles of Politics is general and fundamental, and is a basic course that has to be understood and mastered for politics science learning.

It is the theoretical foundation of Marxist theory. Is a scientific world outlook and methodology of unity, the revolutionary Marxist philosophy epitomizes its critical spirit. Teaches the basic principles of Marxism, to help students establish a correct world outlook and outlook on life, a scientific way of thinking, to raise awareness of things and problem-solving skills, improve students' humanistic qualities.

Prerequisites:
The course of Foundation of Logic will teach the significance, methods, laws and common errors of all kinds of everyday thinking, such as concepts, propositions and inferences. Students can understand the basic meanings and the correct expression of every form of thinking through repeated lectures and discussions, students can also develop fast and reasonable communication skills, proven abilities and rebuttal skills through continuous practical exercise. The Course of Foundation of Logic can provide the correct basis of thinking for the everyday thinking, discussions and exchange, academic research of students.

This course focuses on the basic content of Marx's Political Economics (part of the capitalism). The content of the course is divided into three parts. The first part of the book tells us the thesis of political economics and why we study it; the second is the analysis of commodity economy and social production, giving us the rule of and the commodity economic and social production The third part tells us the basic principle of the capitalist economy and the essence, contradiction and historical trend of the capitalist, and it also reveals the new situation and new problems of the contemporary capitalist economy, the operating mechanism of the capitalist market economy and the state of the economy and the international economic relations.

Prerequisites:
The course of Modern Chinese History is one of the basic courses in the Political Ideology Department. The Modern Chines History is the period from 1840 to 1949 when the People’s Republic of China founded. It includes the late Qing Dynasty, period of Provisional Government of the Republic of China, period of Northern warlords, and period of national Government. It is a history during which the semi-colonial and semi-feudal society evolved to collapse in China. The course mainly introduces the history when the Chinese resisted foreign aggression, defended the national independence, and carefully explored the road to salvaging; introduces the particularity and necessity of Chinese modernization and opening to the world. From the course, the students can have a practical understanding on how modern Chinese people changed difficultly and slowly from passivity to activity, moving toward modernization and conscientiously sum up the valuable lessons of which could provide the realistic enlightenment for today’s Chinese modernization.

Last, we will give an overview of the research methods of Ideological and political education and the training methods of the educators.

Prerequisites:
It is a compulsory course for students majoring in teacher education. This course has two parts:
The first part – Children's psychological development. It mainly involves theories of psychological development, the psychological characteristics of students in different age groups and the latest cutting-edge research findings. And theories applied in practice – case analysis, the psychological mechanism behind the case;
The second part -- secondary school students' cognition and learning. It mainly includes the learning theories, middle school students' learning motivation, learning strategies, learning styles, etc. And it will introduce some major psychology genres’ main thoughts on learning such as behaviorism, cognitive psychology genres and the constructivism. Analyze the reason why today's students lack learning motivation, understand the current situation of students learning motivation and the latest research findings of students learning motivation, and understand the types and development of the students' learning strategies; Introduce the concept of learning style, and the characteristic of the current middle school students' learning styles, and learn how to implement individualized teaching on today's middle school students, and the latest research findings on learning style, etc.

The purpose of this course is to help the normal university students master teaching basic writing and language skills, turn the theory of professional knowledge and teaching skills into specific vocational behavior mode and skills, and tend to be standardized and highly efficient. The major contents include two parts. First is to analyze the structure and function of the teacher's writing and written expression skills, and to tell the students about the training target, principles, methods and basic ways, so as to enable students to form the overall understanding of the goals, methods and ways of teachers. Second is to analyze the basic expression skills of teachers, and give training to the teachers' professional skills of literacy which is one of the most important and core qualities to be improved.

This course is the fundamental course in Politics teachers' professional curriculum system, and a compulsory course for the normal students who are interested in middle school and high school Politics education teaching. The course takes middle school and high school Politicscurriculum standard and teaching material as the research object, and aims to familiarize students with the basic ideas of curriculum standard, structure, content and requirement, the system structure and writing characteristics of middle school Politics teaching materials, to improve the students' curriculum literacy, and to cultivate the wisdom of analyzing teaching material and using teaching materials.

Prerequisites:
This course content and structure reflect the teaching ideas which is based on the teaching ideas that the theory as longitude, the skill as latitude, case and practice as the carrier, emphasis on practical, openness. This course requires students to experience in the teaching feelings, to internalize in practice, to achieve the teaching goal of the formation of the basic skills and establish the correct idea. It requires the way of teaching: instructor diversity, both college teachers and middle school teachers. Two-way teaching activities, including the teacher lectures, also have students prepare teaching and micro-teaching, on-scene observation, etc., and they are dispersed in practice and communication in the class.

Prerequisites:
Through education internship, student teachers will form teacher professional awareness and emotion, grasp specialized knowledge and professional skills, be equipped with the ability of automatically conducting teacher professional development through education, teaching and class management practice, which sets solid foundation for future teaching job.
Student teachers need to take part in all kinds of educational and teaching activities like observing other teachers’ lesson, preparing for the new lesson, trial teaching, giving lessons, managing class, attending research activities,etc.,during the whole educational practice period to improve their comprehensive professional ability which compose the inseparable part for being a secondary school teachers.
