1. Program Description

According to the needs of social development, the History program aims to cultivate morally, intellectually and physically developed professional talents with solid history knowledge.Successful graduates are expected to engage in historical studies, history teaching,secretaries, editors, reporters, and other work in the areas of academic research institutions, various government offices, press and publications, schools and colleges, etc.The students are required to learn the basic theory and basic ideas of Marxism, to learn the principal theory and elementary knowledge of other humanities and social sciences discipline on the basis of history, so that to make a comprehensive training on historical studies, history popularization and other liberal arts skills. Students should master the basic theory and basic knowledge of history, proficiency in a foreign language, have the research skills of history and other liberal arts, and grasp the fundamental method and means of literature search and data inquiry.Through the study of various professional main courses and self-development courses to enable students to master the basic theory of history, understanding the forefront topics ofhistory research and making students have an initial independent scientific research capacity by certainresearch training.

2. Program Duration and Credit

This is a four-year undergraduate program, which can be completed within a minimum of three years and a maximum of seven years according to students’ specific circumstances.

A total of 164 credits are required upon the completion of the program.

3. Curriculum

Four modules of courses are offered for the program: Basic Curriculum, Essential Curriculum, Teacher Education Curriculum and Elective Curriculum. The Basic and Essential curricula are compulsory for a Bachelor’s degree.

The Elective Curriculum in the list includes extended disciplinary courses offered by the school into which an individual student is admitted, as well as cross disciplinary courses offered by other schools. Students can choose the extended and cross disciplinary courses according to their personal interests and career plans; however, credits should be approved by the School.

100401223002     Foundation of Secondary Education      (3 cr.)

Prerequisites:

Foundation of Secondary Education is a basic course in the program of teacher education. It is a compulsory theory lesson for those who want to get teacher certification. It systematically illustrates the educational concepts, which construct educational attainment of teachers, by regarding practical activity of secondary education as the studying objects, combining the basic problems of practice in basic education and through the absorption of the research achievements of contemporary educational theoretician.

This course is not the combination of sub-disciplines. Based on educational attainment, this course emphasizes the phenomenon and problems in basic education(especially secondary school and high school education). This course adapts various teaching approaches like previewing lesson before class, discussing in class, cooperative learning after class, close contacting with middle school students, and analyzing new curriculum to enrich students’ experience of practice and theory in limited teaching periods.

100401223003Children Development and Learning     (3cr.)

Prerequisites:

It is a compulsory course for students majoring in teacher education. This course has two parts:

The first part -- Children's psychological development. It mainly involves theories of psychological development, the psychological characteristics of students in different age groups and the latest cutting-edge research findings. And theories applied in practice -- case analysis, the psychological mechanism behind the case;

The second part -- secondary school students' cognition and learning. It mainly includes the learning theories, middle school students' learning motivation, learning strategies, learning styles, etc. And it will introduce some major psychology genres’ main thoughts on learning such as behaviorism, cognitive psychology genres and the constructivism. Analyze the reason why today's students lack learning motivation, understand the current situation of students learning motivation and the latest research findings of students learning motivation, and understand the types and development of the students' learning strategies; Introduce the concept of learning style, and the characteristic of the current middle school students' learning styles, and learn how to implement individualized teaching on today's middle school students, and the latest research findings on learning style, etc.

100401223004 Teacher Language Expression and Application (2cr.)

Prerequisites:

The purpose of this course is to help the normal university students master teaching basic writing and language skills, turn the theory of professional knowledge and teaching skills into specific vocational behavior mode and skills, and tend to be standardized and highly efficient. The major contents include two parts. First is to analyze the structure and function of the teacher's writing and written expression skills, and to tell the students about the training target, principles, methods and basic ways, so as to enable students to form the overall understanding of the goals, methods and ways of teachers. Second is to analyze the basic expression skills of teachers, and give training to the teachers' professional skills of literacy which is one of the most important and core qualities to be improved.

Prerequisites:

Modern educational technology is a kind of public course of teacher education. Curriculum for normal school students' educational technology ability presents situation and subject of elementary and secondary school teacher's ability of applying information technology requirements, selects seven aspects of the normal students' teaching which is closely related to the exchange, research and practice. As a course with strong guidance, practicality and development for normal students, it will be able to meet the basis of normal students' information teaching, broaden our horizons, access and create teaching resources, grasp the technical support of teaching methods and skills, so as to easily control the 21st century classroom.

100401223011Studies on Secondary School History Curriculum Standards and Textbooks        (2cr.)

Prerequisites:

This course is the fundamental course in history teachers' professional curriculum system, and a compulsory course for the normal students who are interested in middle school and high school history education teaching. The course takes middle school and high school history curriculum standard and teaching material as the research object, and aims to familiarize students with the basic ideas of curriculum standard, structure, content and requirement, the system structure and writing characteristics of middle school history teaching materials, to improve the students' curriculum literacy, and to cultivate the wisdom of analyzing teaching material and using teaching materials.

100401223021Middle School HistoryInstructionalDesign and Skill Training            (3cr.)

Prerequisites:

This course content and structure reflect the teaching ideas which is based on the teaching ideas that the theory as longitude, the skill as latitude, case and practice as the carrier, emphasis on practical, openness. This course requires students to experience in the teaching feelings, to internalize in practice, to achieve the teaching goal of the formation of the basic skills and establish the correct idea. It requires the way of teaching: instructor diversity, both college teachers and middle school teachers. Two-way teaching activities, including the teacher lectures, also have students prepare teaching and micro-teaching, on-scene observation, etc., and they are dispersed in practice and communication in the class.

Prerequisites:

Through education internship, student teachers will form teacher professional awareness and emotion, grasp specialized knowledge and professional skills, be equipped with the ability of automatically conducting teacher professional development through education, teaching and class management practice, which sets solid foundation for future teaching job.

Student teachers need to take part in all kinds of educational and teaching activities like observing other teachers’ lesson, preparing for the new lesson, trial teaching, giving lessons, managing class, attending research activities,etc.,during the whole educational practice period to improve their comprehensive professional ability which compose the inseparable part for being a secondary school teachers.
