Geography (Teacher Education)
1. Program Description
The undergraduate program Geography aims to cultivate “professional leaders” by preparing students to be competent, productive and innovative planners, teachers, researchers and administrators. Successful graduates are expected to have an international vision and creative spirit, the ability to master certain practical planning and GIS skills, and contain the personal qualities of confidence, integrity and perseverance, applicable to some types of educational institutions, planning enterprises, administrative institutions and non-profit organizations.
2. Program Duration and Credit
This is a four-year undergraduate program, which can be completed within a minimum of three years and a maximum of seven years according to students’ specific circumstances.
A total of 174credits are required upon the completion of the program.
3. Curriculum
Four modules of courses are offered for the program: Basic Curriculum, Essential Curriculum, Teacher Education Curriculum and Elective Curriculum. The Basic and Essential curricula are compulsory for a Bachelor’s degree.
The Elective Curriculum in the list includes extended disciplinary courses offered by the school into which an individual student is admitted, as well as cross disciplinary courses offered by other schools. Students can choose the extended and cross disciplinary courses according to their personal interests and career plans; however, credits should be approved by the School.

Prerequisites:
The basic task of this course is to make students master the basic theory and research method of physical geography, understand the historical development of domestic and international geography and academic frontiers, know the main research content of all branches of physical geography, understand the impact of physical activities on the geographical environment evolution.

The basic task is to make students master the basic theories and research methods of human geography, understand the historical development of domestic and international cultural geography and academic frontiers, be acknowledgeable to the main research contents of all branches of human geography, understand the impact of human activities on the geographical environment evolution, and cultivate correct understanding of contemporary major issues concerning person relations (including population, resource, environment and development, so on), and comprehensive ability of analysis to realistic problems such as resources and environment and the sustainable development.
It is a professional basic compulsory course. The focus of the course is the human socio-economic activities on the earth, highlighting the core of human-land relationship, cultural theory characteristics, and the methodological framework of human geography. It explores people’s regional differences in certain natural and cultural environment, human political and economic, travel, religion, culture, and the relationship between human activity and geographical environments. The main sub-disciplines of human geography include population geography, economic geography, settlement geography, cultural geography, political geography, behavioral geography, tourism geography. The course will deeply improve students' understanding in socio-economic activities and human activities in the cultural, and has the ability of human cultural phenomena and their relationship with the correct analysis of the geographical environment, people and land to establish a scientific concept.

Prerequisites:
Physical geology course is mainly through lectures and simple observation experiment method, the introduction of the basic process of geological process, make the students understand the basic principles of geology. General courses including geology, earth's composition and its associated late magmatic activity and the weathering process, etc., including the basic structure and material composition features of the earth and the basic characteristics of rocks, minerals and appraisal; groundwater, rivers, wind, glaciers and so on the basic characteristics of the external forcing on the earth physiognomy and external process. Prerequisites: Physical Geology, Physical Geography
Geomorphology is the study of landforms and the processes that create them. In the course we examine how factors such as climate, bedrock structure and tectonic activities influence landform development. During the course, we will discuss how earth surface processes works, such as weathering, fluvial, mass movement, glacial, periglacial, karst, eolian and tectonics, and how they create the landscape we see. Landscapes are examined through the use of topographic maps, satellite images, geologic maps and during field trips. Case study will be used during teaching. After-class reading will be assigned and students are expected to do seminar report based on these materials. Weekend field trips and lab work will be organized, students are required to participate these activities.

Meteorology and Climatology is a professional basic course of Geography。It is about basic theory and knowledge on meteorology ,Meteorology and Climatology, including: the distribution characteristics and formation mechanism of meteorological elements; the basic law of atmospheric motion and atmospheric circulation; the formation and change of weather system; Influence of underlying surface and human activities on climate; The distribution, classification and change of climate; as well as the latest research results such as global warming, El Nino, and abnormal climate events.

Prerequisites: Physical Geography, Probability and Mathematical Statistics
Hydrology and Water Resources focuses on the hydrological phenomena, spatial and temporal distribution and their relationships of the elements of the physical mechanism of the water cycle and various water bodies. This course is mainly composed of four parts. The first part is the basic water knowledge of literature. It mainly elaborates the molecular structure, composition form and transformation of the water, as well as the physical and chemical properties of water and the space distribution of water and water resources. The second part is the basic theory of hydrological cycle and water balance .It mainly elaborates the basic process and influencing factors of the hydrological cycle, the physical mechanism of the elements, the calculation and analysis methods, water balance principle and its application in water resource estimation, as well as the effects of the hydrological cycle. The third part is the analysis of the specific process of the hydrological cycle. It describes the specific process and theory of hydrological cycle about the three sub-systems of the hydrological cycle,which are the land surface, ocean and underground .It also describes the mutual transformation relationship between the subsystems and the subsystem within the system. The fourth part is the impaction of human activities on the water cycle. It describes the interference of human activities on various aspects of the natural hydrological cycle and the impaction on water properties.

Plant Geography focuses on global pattern of plant distribution. It is and is an interdisciplinary of biology and geography. And it is also related to physical geography and ecology. As a specialty course of students of geography department in normal university, Plant Geography will provide necessary knowledge for those who major in geography study, geography education, regional geography, economic geography, environment and physical geography. The course will also cover the hot research spots and the new technology in the field. The aim of this course is to make students understand the development, research dynamic and research methods of economic geography. Through this course, students will fully understand the following: the main factors influencing the location of economic activities, location theories, regional structure theory, regional development theories and regional spatial organization theory. We hope that students will be able to independently deal with the important economic phenomenon and hot issues after the course.
Economic geography is a sub-discipline of human geography, it is also a cross discipline between the natural sciences, economics and technology. It studies the location and spatial organization of economic activities, as well as their relationship to the geographical environment. This course consists of the research objects and the disciplinary system of economic geography; main location factors and the location choices of industrial activities; agricultural location theory, industrial location theory, central place theory, behavioral location theory and other major location theory; growth pole theory, spatial neighborhood effects and regional economic development and coordination theory; the process of globalization of economic activities and the its influencing factors. This course focuses on practice, application and ability training based on classroom lectures and highlight linking theory with practice. Multimedia and video player are the main ways for classroom lectures. A large number of case teaching will help students master the basic theory and methods of economic geography.

Foundation of Secondary Education is a basic course in the program of teacher education. It is a compulsory theory lesson for those who want to get teacher certification. It systematically illustrates the educational concepts, which construct educational attainment of teachers, by regarding practical activity of secondary education as the studying objects, combining the basic problems of practice in basic education and through the absorption of the research achievements of contemporary educational theoretician.
This course is not the combination of sub-disciplines. Based on educational attainment, this course emphasizes the phenomenon and problems in basic education(especially secondary school and high school education). This course adapts various teaching approaches like previewing lesson before class, discussing in class, cooperative learning after class, close contacting with middle school students, and analyzing new curriculum to enrich students’ experience of practice and theory in limited teaching periods.

Prerequisites:
It is a compulsory course for students majoring in teacher education. This course has two parts:
The first part -- Children's psychological development. It mainly involves theories of psychological development, the psychological characteristics of students in different age groups and the latest cutting-edge research findings. And theories applied in practice -- case analysis, the psychological mechanism behind the case;
The second part -- secondary school students' cognition and learning. It mainly includes the learning theories, middle school students' learning motivation, learning strategies, learning styles, etc. And it will introduce some major psychology genres’ main thoughts on learning such as behaviorism, cognitive psychology genres and the constructivism. Prerequisites:
The purpose of this course is to help the normal university students master teaching basic writing and language skills, turn the theory of professional knowledge and teaching skills into specific vocational behavior mode and skills, and tend to be standardized and highly efficient. First is to analyze the structure and function of the teacher's writing and written expression skills, and to tell the students about the training target, principles, methods and basic ways, so as to enable students to form the overall understanding of the goals, methods and ways of teachers. Modern educational technology is a kind of public course of teacher education. This course is the fundamental course in geography teachers' professional curriculum system, and a compulsory course for the normal students who are interested in middle school and high school geography education teaching. The course takes middle school and high school geography curriculum standard and teaching material as the research object, and aims to familiarize students with the basic ideas of curriculum standard, structure, content and requirement, the system structure and writing characteristics of middle school geography teaching materials, to improve the students' curriculum literacy, and to cultivate the wisdom of analyzing teaching material and using teaching materials.

This course content and structure reflect the teaching ideas which is based on the teaching ideas that the theory as longitude, the skill as latitude, case and practice as the carrier, emphasis on practical, openness. This course requires students to experience in the teaching feelings, to internalize in practice, to achieve the teaching goal of the formation of the basic skills and establish the correct idea. It requires the way of teaching: instructor diversity, both college teachers and middle school teachers. Two-way teaching activities, including the teacher lectures, also have students prepare teaching and micro-teaching, on-scene observation, etc., and they are dispersed in practice and communication in the class.

Prerequisites:

Student teachers need to take part in all kinds of educational and teaching activities like observing other teachers’ lesson, preparing for the new lesson, trial teaching, giving lessons, managing class, attending research activities,etc.,during the whole educational practice period to improve their comprehensive professional ability which compose the inseparable part for being a secondary school teachers.
