3. Core Courses and Introduction
Introduction to Classical Theory Masterpiece of Movie and Theater
The purpose of this course is to enable students to achieve in-depth studying and understanding in the field of film and drama masterpieces of classical theory, for the future of professional learning and research to build a solid professional theory foundation.
The course content includes: the movie aspect mainly introduce Movie Psychology ( Hugo Munsterberg ) and Montage Theory (Eisenstein), Film Aesthetics (Béla Balá), What Is the Movie (André Bazin), The Nature of the Film (Krauer), The Imaginary Signifier - Psychoanalysis and Film (Christian Metz).The theatre aspect mainly introduce Poetics(Aristotle), The Aesthetic (Hegel), Leisure Accidentally Send(Li Yu), The History of the Song and Yuan Drama(wang Guowei).
The History of Chinese Ancient Drama
This course guides the students to sorts out development of Chinese ancient drama, lead the students to read and analyze the main work of drama, develop the students' appreciate beauty interest and appreciate beauty ability to Chinese classical drama.
Mainly according to time sequence, the history of Chinese Ancient Drama’s change, to explain the writer’s works, school of drama and drama ideas in Chinese ancient operas. Main emphasis is the works, especially famous work, such as the four operas in Song and Yuan. (main are the conduct of The Purple Hairpin, Yong Le Da Dian Xi Wen San Zhon, The Story of Pipa, The Romance of West Chamber, Dou E Yuan, Autumn in Palace, ideal setting for a couple in love, the young lady died for love, Orphan of Zhao; L'orphelin Chinois, Chalk circle, Green Peony, Wrong kite, Qingzhong pu, The palace of eternal youth, The Peach Blossom Fan.)
The history of Chinese film
The History of Chinese Film is an elective course for M.A,. candidates, which presents researches on the birth, development, maturity and development rule in Chinese film. This course would help students to know the birth, development, maturity of Chinese film and its characteristics, understanding and evaluation important film artists and their representative works in various development stages.
The history of Chinese film includes the origin of the films and the ways of their transmition to China, films in embryo, national films in formation, progressive films in development, films in expansion , films in the further period, films during “seventeen years”, films during the period of the Cultural Revolution, films in the new period, films at the turn of the century, and films in the 21st century.
TV Program
The purpose of the course is to enable students to master the knowledge system of TV program design and analysis, be familiar with the basic process of the design and analysis of TV programs, understand the development trend of TV column design and analysis, to design and analysis of television programs in the future of the director or production management to lay the foundation of theory and Practice.
Introducing the related knowledge of TV program, including columns theory, principle, characteristics, planning, target audience, and many other aspects of knowledge introduction. Studying the related video, audio program and columns. students can get perceptual knowledge of television documentary and TV columns at the height of rational knowledge and analysis gradually.
Studies on Movies from China’s Taiwan & Hong Kong Regions
The purpose of this course is to help students understand the history and present situation of port film creation research important Hong Kong filmmakers and creation, so as to deepen the cognition to the film creation rules. Students are required to read teacher assigned books, watch important view of film and make notes.
The course is divided into the following 18 chapters: the history of Taiwan movie creation, Taiwan “healthy and realism movie” creation line and its gains and losses, director Lee Hsing’s movie creation, creation of Taiwan movie and love movie in 1970s, gains and losses of Taiwan new cinema, director Hou Hsiao-Hsien and his Sadness Trilogy, director Edward Yang’s movie and its aesthetics, Taiwan movie in the post new cinema times, director Ang Lee’s Father Trilogy, director Tsai Ming-Liang’s movie and its aesthetics, Taiwan female movie creation, gains and losses of Hong Kong new wave cinema, Ann Hui’s movie creation, John Woo’s movie creation and his oriental violence aesthetics, Stanley Kwan’s movie creation, Wong Kar Wai’s art cinema, Johnie To’s movie creation, and the black romantic in Hong Kong movie.
