Introduction:Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the number one killer threatening the health of Chinese people, accounting for 40% of the total deaths in the country, far higher than tumors and other diseases. Atherosclerosis (AS) is the main cause of CVD (more than 95% of all causes). LDL-C (low density lipoprotein cholesterol) in the blood is the main cause of AS. At present, although statins can effectively reduce LDL-C level, there are still some patients who cannot achieve the goal of lowering blood fat or cannot tolerate them. In recent years, PCSK9 (pre protein converting enzyme subtilisin-9) inhibitor is a new type of lipid-lowering drug that has attracted more and more attention and is considered to be a drug specifically for the treatment of atherosclerosis. A new PCSK9 inhibitor was invented by the research team of Jiangsu Province Key Laboratory of Molecular Medicine and Biotechnology of School of Life Sciences. The study shows that the inhibitor has good drug-forming ability and can effectively reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases such as coronary heart disease, myocardial infarction and stroke. This achievement was published in the form of a patent and was declared in October 2015 and authorized in March 2019 (ZL 201510205553.5). In July 2019, the enterprise was funded with 4.2 million yuan and is currently applying for the clinical application of the drug. This project is the result of NNU's scientific research strategy of "stand up to heaven", and it is also a typical case of NNU's production, teaching and research.
