I. University Profile

Nanjing Normal University is located in Nanjing, capital city for six dynasties in ancient Chinese history. It is on the list of China’s "211 Project" for priority development of universities under the supervision of the Department of Education of Jiangsu Province. Its history can be traced back to 1902 when the Sanjiang Normal Institute was created as one of the origins of modern higher educational institutes for teachers’ development in China.

As a prestigious university with a history of over 110 years, Nanjing Normal University has been home to a galaxy of educational masters in China who had administrated or taught on its campus: Tao Xingzhi, Chen Heqin, Wu Yifang, Xu Beihong, Zhang Daqian, Fu Baoshi, Li Xu Dan. These world-renowned scholars in education, fine arts and other fields had left a tremendous legacy for the university.

The university consists of three campus: Xianlin, Suiyuan, and Zijin. The Suiyuan campus is known as "the most beautiful campus in the East". There are 25 colleges or schools in the university, plus 48 provincial-level key research institutions, employing 3,240 faculty members, including 549 full professors. The university offers 95 Bachelor’s degree programs with 16,408 undergraduate students. There are 9,961 graduate students, including 1,062 Ph.D. candidates. The university hosts 4 National-level Teaching Teams, 1 Innovation Team under the Ministry of Education, and over 20 top-notch scholars including academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, scholars from China’s "Thousand Talents Program”, "10000 Talents Program”, National Famous Teachers, specially-appointed professors from the “Program of Changjiang Scholars”, and winners of National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars.

Nanjing Normal University has six National Key Disciplines, 3 National Developing Key Disciplines, 10 Priority Academic Programs of Universities in Jiangsu Province, 5 first-level disciplines to be developed into National Key Disciplines supported by Jiangsu Province, as well as 18 first-level key disciplines in Jiangsu Province. It has 22 doctorate degree disciplines, 37 master’s degree disciplines, and 22 post-doctoral research stations. The disciplines cover a wide range of philosophy, economics, law, education, liberal arts, history, science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, management, and arts. Seven disciplines were ranked among the top 10 disciplines in China during the third round of national evaluation of university disciplines. Three disciplines have entered the world’s top 1% list of ESI rating.

II. Positions and Remuneration

(A) Candidates

  1. Winners of Second Prize (or above) of State Science and Technology Prizes (ranked first among co-recipients), Changjiang Scholar, winners of "National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars”, scholars from "Thousand Talent Program” (Long-term Innovators Program, Short-term Innovators Program), scholars from "10000 Talent Program" (Outstanding Talents and Leading Talents). Age requirement: under 50.
  2. Chief experts or program leaders for Major Programs of National Social Science Foundation, Key (or Major) Programs of National Natural Science Foundation, major national special programs in science and technology, national key R&D Programs, National Key Basic Research and Development Programs (973 Program), key or major National High Technology Research and Development Program (863 Program). Winners of first prizes of provincial-level or ministerial-level award for outstanding achievements in humanities and social sciences (ranked first among co-recipients) or winners of first prizes o provincial-level or ministerial-level award for outstanding achievements in natural science (ranked first among co-recipients). Scholars from Jiangsu Province "Innovation and Entrepreneurship Program”, Specially-appointed Professor of Jiangsu Province, and other established scholars with outstanding achievements recognized by the academic community.
  3. Scholars from "Thousand Talents Program” (Program for Young Talents), "10000 Talents Program" (Young Leadership Program), and winners of National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars. Age requirement: under 40.
  4. Other higher-level scholars, generally under 40 years of age.

(B) Positions

In accordance with the need of the university as well as the development of its leading disciplines, positions in Architecture, Urban and Rural Planning, Landscape Architecture, Environmental Science and Engineering, Municipal Engineering, Civil Engineering, Material Science and Engineering, Public Management, History and other related disciplines and specialties are open to all candidates.

(C) Remuneration

The university offers competitive and personalized remuneration packages for scholars from different categories. The specific remuneration policy is provided on individual basis.

Salary and Benefits


Start-up Funding

Scholars from “Thousand Talents Program”, Changjiang Scholars, “10000 Talents Program”, winners of Second Prizes of the three major National Awards for Science and Technology (ranking first among co-recipients)

Annual salary: RMB 500,000 to 1 million; Monthly salary: RMB 30,000 to 50,000 for “Thousand Talents Program” (Short-term program)

Free apartment stay for “Thousand Talents Program” (Short-term program) during the contract term; for other scholars in this category: home-purchase subsidy (RMB 2 million) or other forms of relocation subsidy

Start-up policy is provided on individual basis, including office, start-up funds, discipline-building funds, research team building, enrollment of graduate students.

Specially-appointed professors of Nanjing Normal University, specially appointed professors of Jiangsu Province, Jiangsu Innovation and Entrepreneurship Talents

Annual incentive salary (RMB 120,000) in addition to basic salary and basic performance-based salary.

During the contract term, RMB 1 million as home-purchase subside or relocation subsidy (For specially appointed professors of Jiangsu Province and Jiangsu Innovation and Entrepreneurship Talents, the same policy may apply). For lecturing professors, free apartment stay is provided.

“Young Thousand Talent Program”, “Young Leadership Talent Program”, winners of National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars

Annual salary of RMB 300,000 to 500,000 for “Young Thousand Talent Program” scholars; annual salary of minimum RMB 200,000 for “Young Leadership Talent Program” scholars and  winners of National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars

During the contract term, RMB 1 million to 1.2 million as home-purchase subsidy or relocation subsidy.

Other high-level scholars

Remuneration policy for associate professor (lowest level) applies to candidates with doctorate degrees during the term of appointment

During the contract term, home-purchase or relocation subsidy is provided (RMB 600,000 for full professors, RMB 400,000 for associate professors, and RMB 300,000 for scholars with doctorate degrees).
