On October 10, 2021, Nanjing Normal University welcomed more than 9,000 new students. A series of services directed at the freshman was carefully designed and carried out smoothly.
In the morning, NNU CPC Committee Secretary Minqiang Hu, NNU President Guoxiang Chen and other officers welcomed freshmen at train stations and bus stations and extended gratitude to the volunteers. Coach buses were specially allocated to go there to take freshmen to the campuses.
In accordance with the requirements and guidance of the Ministry of Education and the Provincial Department of Education regarding epidemic prevention and control, staff and volunteers were arranged to help freshmen with identity verification, body temperature testing and other procedures before entering campuses. There were volunteer service stations set up in different areas of the campuses which freshmen could turn to at any time for help. Meanwhile, every freshman was accompanied by a volunteer to get familiar with the campuses.
All the schools prepared distinctive souvenirs and signature walls for freshmen. The four-piece gift boxes for freshmen from the School of Electrical and Automation Engineering were very attractive. Each box contained a pen, a box of ink, a notebook and a ruler. On the ruler was a dielectric diagram designed by students from the school. Students from the School of Food and Pharmaceutical Engineering extended a warm welcome to freshmen via tailor-made Coca-Cola cans with Chinese characters printed on them.
Some activities with characteristics of different schools in NNU were undertaken as well. Teachers and students from the School of Social Development and the School of Physical Education and Sports Science prepared birthday cakes for the freshmen whose birthdays happened to fall on their first day at NNU. Professor Changyong Liao, a famous baritone singer, director of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music and a visiting professor at NNU addressed freshmen cordially and took photos with them.
