Teachers and Students from NNU Participated in the 2025 National Workshop on the "Top-Tier Student Training Program 2.0 for Basic Disciplines" in Biological Sciences
The National Workshop on the "Top-Tier Student Training Program 2.0 for Basic Disciplines in Biological Sciences" was held at Tsinghua University from May 9th to 11th, 2025. Nearly 200 faculty and student representatives from 33 universities participating in the "Top-Tier Student Training Program 2.0 for Basic Disciplines in Biological Sciences," attended the event. Professor Bojian Zhong, dean of the School of Life Sciences at NNU, Ziqiang Zhu, the department director of the Top-Tier Student Training Base Program, along with three students from the Class of 2024 Top-Tier Base Program, Yifan Lu, Jiayi Li, and Yuanni Xu, were invited to attend the seminar.
Attendees of the seminar included Academician Zhihong Xu of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and former president of Peking University; Hongwei Wang, member of the Party Standing Committee and vice president of Tsinghua University; Congzhao Zhou, deputy secretary of the Communist Party Committee of University of Science and Technology of China; Academician Songhai Shi, of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and dean of the School of Life Sciences at Tsinghua University; Yi Liu, director of the Academic Affairs Office at Tsinghua University; Xinquan Wang, party secretary of the Communist Party Committee of the School of Life Sciences at Tsinghua University; Xuemei Wu, chief researcher of the Textbook Development Institute of Higher Education Press; Liuxing Cao, deputy director of the Academic Affairs Office of Tsinghua University , among others.

The seminar featured group discussions centered on two key themes: "Value Formation in the Cultivation of Top Talent" and "Improving the Quality of Core Courses in Biology". Bojian Zhong and Ziqiang Zhu each participated in separate discussion groups. They shared NNU’s practical experience in cultivating innovative and talented students, focusing on issues such as the value formation in the growth of undergraduate students, alleviating academic pressure and promotion of diversified development, faculty workload under small-class teaching models, and optimizing the teaching evaluation system.

The student representatives participated in a discussion held at the Tsinghua Auditorium, focusing on the theme of "Self-Directed Learning and Research Experience Sharing". Student representatives from Tsinghua University’s "XueTang Program" introduced the university’s innovative measures in areas such as elective course selection, research training, and international exchange. Yifan Lu, a student from our university, shared distinctive experiences in interdisciplinary education and educational practice. The attending students engaged in enthusiastic discussions on topics such as personalized training plans and the open sharing of academic resources.
After the seminar, participating faculty and students toured the Tsinghua campus and its teaching and research facilities, gaining insight into the development of platforms for student innovation and entrepreneurship. The student representatives also visited the China National Arts and Crafts Museum, where they admired a wide range of traditional arts and crafts masterpieces on display and learned about the historical development and innovative achievements of Chinese arts and crafts.
This practical learning experience significantly enhanced students’ abilities in independent research and added important content to the cultural literacy component of the Top-Tier Student Training Program. It also promoted exchanges between NNU's biology top-tier training base and peer institutions, strengthening the bonds between faculty and students, and fully demonstrated the achievements we have made in cultivating top talent.
