Professor She Liu held a traditional Chinese painting exhibition in Paris
The secluded and elegant paintings expressed the heart of past and present. Recently, She Liu, Dean of School of Fine Arts of Nanjing Normal University (NNU), member of Art Appraisal Group of the State Council, famous artist of Traditional Chinese Painting, held a traditional Chinese painting exhibition in Paris. Organized by Centre Culturel de Chine à Paris and Research Center of Fine Arts of China National Academy of Painting and sponsored by School of Fine Arts of NNU and Beijing Mediwelcome Advertisement Co. Ltd., this exhibition displayed over 40 landscape and figure paintings recently drawn by Liu She andZhang Yidan, the researcher from China National Academy of Painting. Present at this opening ceremony of the exhibition were Mr. Zhai Jun, Chinese ambassador to France, Mr. Li Shaoping, Cultural Affairs Minister Councilor at China to France Embassy, Mr. Yin Fu, Director of Centre Culturel de Chine à Paris, Mr. Zhang Xiaoling, Deputy Dean of China National Academy of Painting, Mr. Remy Aron, Chairman of La Société Nationale des Beaux Arts, Ms. Della Le Ve, Chairman of La Maison des Artistes, Mr. Lyon Gao, Communication Academician from Académie des Beaux-Arts, Mr. Leroy, Ex-deputy District Mayor of the Seventh District of Paris, and other a hundred odd Chinese and French artists.
During his speech, Mr. Remy Aron extended deep gratitude to the two Chinese painters for their joint exhibition full of art and friendship for France and highly commended all the works displayed. Mr. Zhai Jun said the exhibition held at special time served as an embodiment of the strength of art, the significance of peace and the courage of kind people, bridging French and Chinese culture and art.
Both China and France, as major cultural countries in the world, feature a long history and brilliant culture, sharing many art similarities. In the new era when traditions are interwoven with modernity, artists form China and France are facing similar challenges. Mr. Liu She told the journalist: “Paris is home to world culture with the accumulation of numerous advanced cultural expressions and it has established unique historical and cultural position. Paris is a land of dreams for artists across the world while Centre Culturel de Chine à Paris is a mecca for Chinese painters. It is, without doubt, the realization of our dream of ‘going global’ that the exhibition can be staged as schedule.”
According to Professor Liu who has profound understanding of traditional techniques. In his opinion, innovating painting styles is the engine of sustainable artist thinking as well as the consistent logic and pursuit in designing traditional Chinese paintings. Professor Liu’s paintings represent the intuition of innovation in Chinese modern art. The purpose of his works is to scale up the expression, adding in more novel concepts. The mysterious quality of originality is always implied throughout his works. The shadow, structure, technique of drawing and the way of applying colors convey a strong sense of contemporaneity and originality.
This exhibition in France, based on two artists’ aspiration and mature drawing techniques, is a visual banquet for the world and a pilgrimage to the city of art. It is also a review and summary of their recent research in traditional Chinese painting, showing Chinese art’s glamour in a foreign country. A series of joint exhibitions will be held under the cultural brand “Painting Soul, Colorful Appeal” (“Mohun Caiyun”in Chinese), which will be covered by over 20 foreign media agencies including the French State TV Station.
