On January 16, 2018, at the invitation of Prof. Guang Yang from the School of Life Sciences (CLS) of Nanjing Normal University (NNU), Prof. Fuwen Wei delivered a lecture during an academic visit and communication with NNU. Prof. Wei is a professor of Wildlife Ecology and Conservation Biology, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Science (CAS) and a researcher of the Institute of Zoology, CAS.
In the morning, Prof. Wei gave an academic lecture titled “Conservation Biology of the Giant Panda” for the teachers and graduate students in the School of Life Sciences. In the report, Prof. Wei pointed out the past, present and future conditions of endangered species in China, especially the giant pandas and red pandas. Then, he introduced the giant pandas’ evolutionary and demographic processes as well as the adaptive mechanism of their bamboo diet and pseudo-thumb development by using state of the art methods based on macro-ecology and micro (molecular)-ecology. After the talk, Prof. Wei had in-depth academic exchanges with both teachers and students, and gave detailed answers to the audience's questions.
