Peking Opera arrives in the Confucius Institute at Pace University

Recently, the Confucius Institute at Pace University which was established by Nanjing Normal University invited Jun Li, a well-known artist for playing the male role of the elderly in the Shanghai Jingju Theatre Company, to deliver a lecture on Peking Opera.

Artist Jun Li was the winner of the Plum Performance Prize for Peking Opera. During the lecture, Jun Li introduced some basic knowledge on Peking Opera. He gave an explanation on the different Peking Opera genres and the origins of Sheng, Dan, Jing, and Chou. He performed many pieces like horsing, rowing, searching for man at night, and girl’s feeding the chicken, etc.

In the session of Question and Answer, Jun Li gave a talk on the evolution process of Chinese dramas and operas, and had a instruction on the production of some Peking Opera costumes and props.

Attracted by the charm of Chinese Peking Opera, many people attended the lecture including teachers and students of Peace University andthe  Confucius Institute, and those Chinese opera enthusiasts of all walks from New York.
