As buds break into new leaves, NNU students stepped onto the campus after the record long winter holiday for the new term. On April, 21 2020 the Xianlin Campus and Suiyuan Campus of NNU embraced its first batches of students returning for the spring term.
To guarantee the smooth and safe return of the students, NNU has set up returning registration working headquarters, supported and assisted by relevant departments and colleges of the university. In this way, a jointly coherent and cooperative approach was adopted to facilitate the return of the students.
To ensure the quick entry of the students, eight gates were simultaneously available for entry on the Xianlin and Suiyuan Campuses and several routeways were set up for school entry procedures. Moreover, designated gates and the opening duration of each gate were arranged in accordance with the distance to the student dormitories. In each registration area, a working team led by a school leader organized the carryout of temperature measuring and code scanning, with joint efforts made by the student work team, logistics and emergency team, and transportation team made up of staff from relevant departments in the university.
Early in the morning on April 21st each registration area witnessed the hustle and bustle of school leaders giving comprehensive instructions on site, traffic police safeguarding the traffic order and security guards. The faculty and staff volunteers all had their hands full as well. Returning students received a warm welcome and greetings from school leaders and teachers waiting by the school gate. Under the guidance of teachers, students practiced social distancing while waiting for entry into the campus. They were able to enter the campus only when passing every checking in procedure, including measuring their temperature, scanning the “Campus Today” code and verifying their newly-generated “Jiangsu Health Code”.
For this special returning procedure, the faculty and staff volunteers actively signed up for this voluntary work. The frontline reception work in all eight registration spots was all undertaken by these volunteers. In addition, many professors and Ph.D. supervisors joined the voluntary reception work. Student volunteers also played a significant role, where under the guidance of student advisors, they worked cooperatively to provide such services as luggage transferring and dormitory check-in. Every link from the school gate to the dormitory was carried out coherently and smoothly in line with school procedures that had been rehearsed many times by these NNU volunteers and staff.
Under an arrangement of registering during different time slots, as of 20:00 p.m., a total of 4724 students, including 3088 undergraduates and 1636 graduate students, returned and registered at the university.
In this warm spring full of vitality, we hope those students back in school return to their hard-working mode soon and make solid progress toward their goals.
