On the morning of August 12, 2020, the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Education Alliance Conference, with the theme “Pool Wisdom, Share the Future”, was held in Qingdao. Attendees included key leaders from the Ministry of Education, the National Center for Educational Technology, and relevant provinces and cities, experts from Nanjing Normal University, East China Normal University, etc., representatives from the first batch of 11 sponsored enterprises, including Huawei, Iflytek CO.,LTD., Haier, Hisense, as well as representatives from other renowned enterprises like Inspur. Professor Jianjun Gu from the School of Education Science at Nanjing Normal University was selected as the chairman of the conference. Experts and scholars at the conference all devoted their insights to depicting the blueprint of AI Education.
The AI Education Alliance, positioned as a private non-profit international organization, is composed of international organizations, educational administrative departments, primary and secondary schools, AI high-tech enterprises, colleges and universities, scientific research institutions, and etc. involved in AI. The alliance invited Professor Jianjun Gu, the dean of the School of Education Science at Nanjing Normal University, to serve as the chairman, Wen Gao, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and dean of the School of Electronics Engineering and Computer Science at Peking University as a special consultant, and 11 other professors including Aoying Zhou, vice president of East China Normal University, to serve as the distinguished experts of its Expert Steering Committee.
The alliance was formed at the initial stage of development of AI education, which aims to provide integrated solutions for the “production, learning and research” of AI. From the perspective of encouraging entrepreneurship and employment and cultivating talent, the establishment of the alliance supports the national AI development strategy, benefiting the whole of China and even the countries along the “Belt and Road”.
Professor Jianjun Gu, chairman of the alliance, gave a video presentation on the development plan of the alliance. A ceremony to sign a contract between the AI Education Alliance and Nanjing Normal University was held at the conference, which will be conducive to the launching of innovative applications of AI education, popularizing AI education, creating comprehensive AI education events, cultivating AI education examples, and building a talent training base.
After the establishment of the alliance, a series of activities, such as the AI education conference, AI teacher training, AI competitions, AI open days in primary and secondary schools, and AI education cultural tourism carnival will be held every year, and some projects including “AI Education Culture Center” and “AI Production and Education Integration Center” will be implemented, thus attracting more AI unicorns to invest or open branches, optimizing the employment structure, and producing new engines for economic growth. The alliance will also organize forums and seminars on AI education as well as AI education competitions.
The alliance is expected to admit over 30 international organizations, over 50 educational administrative departments from more than 50 different countries, over 50 universities and scientific research institutions, over 1,000 primary and secondary schools, over 1,000 domestic and foreign AI enterprises. With the development, the alliance will attract more institutions to participate through results sharing and open cooperation, thus contributing significantly to the development of AI education.
