China-Australia Young Elites Dialogue Held on NNU Campus
To promote exchange and communication between Chinese and Australian young elites, to accelerate the process of internationalization of the university, and to widen students’ horizon, on the December 4th, the university invited young elites from the University of Western Australia and Nanjing University of Science and Technology to gather together on Xianlin campus, launching the Dialogue with the undergraduate representatives from Nanjing Normal University’s CPC Party School. Deputy CPC Secretary of the University, Professor Wang Jian, was invited to the event and delivered a speech.
In his speech, Professor Wang Jian extended his warm welcome to the visiting elites from the two universities, and gave a brief introduction of the history of over 100 years of Nanjing Normal University, together with the strengths of the university, disciplinary features, and international exchanges. Deputy Dean of the School of Foreign Languages and Cultures, Professor Yan Zhijun, and Professor Shao Ke from the University of Western Australia made keynote speeches respectively.
China–Australia young elites participated in group discussions, stating their opinions on three main themes: “How to lead China’s development with innovative spirits”, “How does Chinese culture make positive influence on internationalization progress”, and “In what way does the China-Australia cooperation improve the Asia-Pacific economic development”. They talked in English to communicate during the whole discussion, some stating the viewpoints, some absorbing and inducting. Lights of thinking were sparkling among hot debates and friendships were strengthened with the viewpoints collision. In the end, the young elites made group reports, analyzing innovation and cooperation from basic education, high-tech and reforms of political systems. They also made a consensus on seeking common ground while reserving differences to achieve a win-win situation on the ground of respective national conditions.
As Confucius said, “It is a pleasure to have friends coming from afar.” This Dialogue not only shed light on the academic exchanges and wisdom sharing, but also brought about a profound thinking on the China-Australia cooperative relationship and win-win development model in the future. It is the interactions of the two cultures and the resonance of the two national dreams. Elites of our university presented the NNU stories and Chinese stories, closely combined the Chinese Dream and Australian Dream, the Chinese Dream and the Global Dream, echoing an elegant Suiyuan rhythm and voice of China.
