A Delegation of Young Leftists from Western Europe Visiting Nanjing Normal University

On the morning of April 23, 2023, Chengbin Wang, secretary of the NNU Committee of the CPC, met with a delegation of young Leftists from Western Europe invited by the International Department, Central Committee of CPC to visit China, at Suiyuan Campus.

Chengbin Wang warmly welcomed the delegation of 14 guests led by Massimiliano Ay, general secretary of the Communist Party (Switzerland), and introduced the long history of Nanjing Normal University (NNU), its distinctive academic characteristics, and its achievements in international cooperation and exchange. Wang said that the university had inherited and carried forth the tradition of “improving people’s conditions and educating people” for 100 years, educated and guided the students to have firm confidence in the socialist path with Chinese characteristics, and actively carried out public volunteer activities. He hoped to take the visit of the delegation as an opportunity to build a platform for Sino-Foreign educational exchanges and mutual learning among civilizations, and to strengthen cooperation and friendship with leaders of political parties as well as experts and scholars in education in Switzerland and Italy, to contribute to the building of a community with a shared future for humankind.

Massimiliano Ay expressed his gratitude to NNU for hosting the event and his appreciation for its achievements in the ideological education of young students, talent training, Italian language teaching, and voluntary activities for public welfare. Ay said that during his exchange visit to China, he was delighted to witness the vigorous development of all parts of China and feel the role of Chinese modernization in promoting world peace and global development. He hoped to take this opportunity to enhance cooperation between Switzerland and NNU in the field of education to pursue new achievements in talent training.

The representatives of the teachers and students from the School of Foreign Languages and Cultures of NNU introduced the profound learning and implementation of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era as well as their active participation in volunteer services and social practice. In recent years, NNU students have established a good reputation for the NNU Volunteer Service by participating in major international sports event services, rural revitalization, and scientific and technological exchanges between China and other countries.

Representatives of young politicians from Switzerland and Italy expressed sincere admiration for the 121-year history of NNU and the simple and beautiful environment of the Suiyuan campus. They also expressed deep admiration for the fluent expression of Italian by NNU students as well as their willingness to enhance communication and interaction between young students from China and Western European countries, promote the development of Chinese language teaching in Italy and Switzerland, and enhance mutual understanding between different cultures around the world.

Officials from the Party Office, the Office of Global Engagement, and the School of Foreign Languages and Cultures attended the meeting.
