On the afternoon of May 5th, the second “NNU Youth Summit of Youth from Silk Road”: Russia and Laos cultural performances were held in Suiyuan Campus of Nanjing Normal University. The summit was hosted by the Graduate School and organized by the International College for Chinese Studies. The vice president of NNU, Baiqi Pan, attended the event and delivered a speech. Nearly 300 teachers and students from home and abroad enjoyed this happy get-together.
In Pan’s speech, he said this summit, making good use of resources and features of NNU, was not only a response and implementation of “The Belt and Road Initiative” of China, but also an important bridge communicating young students from home and abroad.
Later, Pan presented a silk banner to the Chinese language teaching volunteer teams which went to Russia, New Zealand and Thailand and awarded NNU postgraduate Tarana with the certificate and passport for “Chinese Language Teaching Idols”. Students who did good jobs in “Beautiful Nanjing, Pretty NNU”Calligraphy, Pantingand Photography Competition were also awarded certificates by the guests. Then, student representatives sang the university anthem of NNU in English, announcing the opening of this summit.
The summit included four parts: “Getting to Know Each Other”, “Melodious Songs Appreciation”, “Colorful Dancing Show” and “Special Buffet” and foreign students from different countries were divided into several groups to participate in the activities. In the first part, students enjoyed exotic music and guessed the names of songs, melodies lighting up a heated atmosphere. In the second part, imitating Laotian dances gave students a novel experience. At the closing of the summit, foreign students exchanged postcards with their best wishes and splashed waters blessing each other.
The “NNU Youth Summit” provided a platform for youth from home and abroad, strengthening cultural communication between Chinese and foreign students. The event shows unique cultural characteristics of different nationalities from different countries, promotes cultural exchange among various countries and enhance the friendship between Chinese and foreign students as well.
