Marxist Theory
1.Discipline Foundation
The School of Marxism Studies has enjoyed a high reputation in academic research. It is one of the first schools to confer doctoral degrees as a “first level discipline” in Marxist Theory and have a postdoctoral program. The Basic Principle of Marxism, a “second level discipline”, is a key discipline in Jiangsu Province and has been consecutively awarded “A Project Funded by the Priority Academic Program Development of Jiangsu Higher Education Institutions” in the first, second and third term. The discipline of Marxist Theory ranked6thin the China Discipline Ranking (CDR) organized by Academic Degrees Office of the State Council in 2009 and 2012 and 5th to10th (5%) in 2016.
2.Team Building
The school has a number of distinctive research directions, such asThought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, the Construction of Socialist Mainstream Ideology, the Spread of Marxism in China, the Marxist Moral Construction and the Theory and the Practice of Online Teaching of an Ideological and Political Theory Course. It has one chief expert who joins in Central Marxism Theory Research and Construction Project, 3 members of the Ministry of Education Teaching Guidance Committee, 3 people who enjoy a special allowancefrom the State Council, 1 awarded the “Project of National Talent of Millions”, 2 awarded the “333 Talent Project of Jiangsu Province”, 2 in “A Group of Five People of Jiangsu Province” and 2 in the “Six Talents Project” (Education) of Jiangsu Province.
3.Talent Cultivation
Outstanding achievements have been made in teaching reform in terms of the course of ideological and political theory. The school has been granted distinctive awards, for instance, one first provincial level prize of “Outstanding Achievements in Education” and three second provincial level prizes. The successful teaching reform for undergraduates made NNU the only speaker to share its experience at the Conference on National University Ideological Political Work.
4.Scientific Research
The faculty members have two major projects supported by National Social Science Fund, five key ones funded by National Social Science Fund , and another 12 projects,eightof which received the prize of the Outstanding Social Achievement of the Jiangsu Province and two of which were selected to the outstanding achievements library supported by National Social Science Fund.The school has published 36 monographs by People’s Publishing House, etc., and 152 articlesin such national journals as the Study of Marxism, Marxism and Reality, and 61 of them were published in Xinhua Digest, Chinese Social Science Digest, and other influential journals.
5.International Exchange and Cooperation
The school has held two international conferences, “Marx’s Classic and Contemporary Socialism Theory—The Third China-Japan Socialist BBS” and “Marx, Engels and Contemporary Socialism to Mark the 120th Anniversary of The Death of Engels International Academic Seminar”.Many famous scholars have given lectures at NNU. Meanwhile, two of faculty of the schoolhave gone to preeminent universities abroad as visiting scholarsand over ten have attended high-level international conferences and made keynote speeches.
6.Social Service
The discipline gives full play to its advantages and its role as a think tank for national economic and social development by strengthening cooperation with universities and other social groups nationwide,promoting the achievements of the curriculum and teaching reform, andimproving the training of core faculty in their ideological and political work. 11 universities, including Guangxi University, Zhejiang Normal University, and Shandong University of Science and Technology, adopted this teaching model by paying for the fees in the agreement and Xinjiang Agricultural University and Xinjiang Medical University adopted it as an aid.The school has delivered more than 200 lectures on theory, trained over 4000 key personnel in ideological and political work in colleges and universities, and hosted and organized 8 high-level academic conferences.
