Lixin Tian

Vice President

Lixin Tian, Doctor of Science, Professor, and Doctoral Supervisor, is currently Vice President of Nanjing Normal University.

Professor Tian graduated from the Department of Mathematics, East China Normal University, in 1983, with a Bachelor of Science degree. In 1998, he graduated from the Department of Mathematics, Suzhou University, with a Doctor of Science degree.

Professor Tian has been engaged in the theoretical analysis and application of nonlinear dispersive wave equations, dynamic large-scale system modeling and control, and energy-economic system. He has led 10 research projects funded by National Natural Science Foundation, 8 of which have been completed, including four listed as Major Projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation. He has also led and completed two research projects funded by the National Social Science Foundation, including one Major Project funded by the National Social Science Foundation. He has presided over more than 30 provincial- and ministerial-level research projects. He has published more than 240 research papers in Chinese and international journals, including over 180 SCI papers. He is also the author of five monographs. As Chief Contributor, he has won Jiangsu Province Science and Technology Progress Award on three occasions, including 1First Prize (2001), 1 Second Prize (2014), 1 Third Prize (2009). He also won 2 Second Prizes of Shanghai Science and Technology Progress Award (ranked the third contributor in 2001 and 2007). As Chief Contributor, he has won Machinery Industry Science and Technology Progress Award on three occasions, including 2 Second Prizes (2008, 2011), 1 Third Prize (2013). As Chief Contributor, he has won Jiangsu Province Philosophy and Social Sciences Award on four occasions, including 1 First Prize (2014), 1Second Prize (2005), and 2Third Prize (2001, 2007). As Chief Contributor, he has won 1 First Prize of the Ministry of Education Outstanding Scientific Achievement (Humanities and Social Sciences) at Higher Education Institutes (2015).

Professor Tian has presided over the completion of 6 national and provincial teaching reform projects, including 2 provincial-level key projects, and has published more than 10 papers on educational reform. He has won 1 First Prize of Jiangsu Province Higher Education Achievement Award (2011), and developed a course that was recognized as Jiangsu Province Excellent Course (2010). Two textbooks he edited were elected as Jiangsu Province Excellent Textbooks.

Professor Tian has been recognized with provincial- and ministerial-level honors. In 1992, he was honored by the Ministry of Machinery and Electronics Industries as Outstanding Youth in Science and Technology and as winner of the Ministry of Machinery and Electronics Industries Outstanding Teaching Award. In 1994 and 1996, he was recognized as Jiangsu Province Outstanding Young Teacher at University on two occasions. In 1996, he won the Third Prize of the Henry Fok Education Foundation Award for Young Teachers. In 1998, he was selected as talent for Jiangsu Province New Century Academic Leader Program at Universities. In 1999, he received the Silver Prize of the Jiangsu Province "Red Cedar" Gardener Award for University Teachers. In 2001, he was honored with the title of Jiangsu Province Outstanding Educator. In 2002, he received the title of the 5th Outstanding Scientific and Technological Talents in Jiangsu Province. He receives special government allowances offered by the State Council. He was also selected as Outstanding Graduate Student Supervisor in Jiangsu Province, Outstanding Backbone Teacher at Universities honored by the Ministry of Education. In 2003, he received "University Young Teacher Award" of the Ministry of Education, and the title of "National Excellent Teacher". In 2006, he was offered funding from the Jiangsu Province "Six Talent Peak" Program. In 2007, he was named national-level candidate for the New Century Talents Project. In 2008, he was recognized as one of the Jiangsu Province "Six Talent Peak" professionals. In 2001, 2008, and 2011, he was selected as young leading talents (Tier 2) for Jiangsu Province"Project 333" on three occasions.

Professor Tian is also working as Council Member of the Chinese Mathematical Association, Supervisor of the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics of Jiangsu Province, Vice Chairman of Jiangsu Province Institute of Systems Science, Vice Chairman of the Committee of Chinese Scholars of International Association for Energy Economics, Vice Chairman of Professional Committee of Energy Systems Engineering of China Energy Society, Vice Chairman of Professional Committee of Complex Systems of China Law Society, and Executive Vice Editor-in-chief of Inter.J.Nonli.Sci.
