Deputy Vice Chancellor
Jian Wang, Doctor of Science, Professor, and Doctoral Supervisor, is currently the Deputy Vice Chancellor of Nanjing Normal University.
He was admitted to Nanjing University in 1979, and received his B.S., M.S., and Doctorate degrees respectively in 1983, 1986 and 1989. From 1997 to 1998, he worked as Senior Visiting Scholar to the University of Washington in the U.S. He also visited France and Japan to work on cooperative research programs, and went to Germany, Australia and other countries and regions for exchange purposes.
He has participated in “973 Project”, “908 National Special Project” and Major Scientific and Technological Project supported by the Ministry of Oil. He has presided over international cooperation projects, projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation, key projects funded by the Ministry of Education, and special project in Jiangsu Province “908 Program”. He has published over 150 peer-reviewed articles in Palaeo-, Palaeo-, Palaeo-, Geomorphology, ESPL, J. Coastal Res., Chinese Science , Science Communique and other Chinese and international journals. His research achievements had won Jiangsu Province Science and Technology Progress Award (1997, 2001), Second Prize of Jiangsu Province Philosophy and Social Science Excellent Achievement Award (2014), and First Prize of the Ministry of Education Natural Science Award (2004). He has served as reviewer for internationally renowned journals, such as Palaeo-, Palaeo-, Palaeo -, Geomorphology, and Quaternary Research. He has edited textbooks for the National 21st Century Course series, Course books for the 11thFive-year Plan Period, and Course books for the 12th Five-year Plan Period. He has presided over the development of National Excellent Courses, Excellent Video Course, and National Excellent Resources Sharing Course. He has won the Second Prize of National Outstanding Teaching Achievement, First Prize of Jiangsu Province Outstanding Teaching Achievement, and the title of Jiangsu Province Famous Teacher. He is also the leader of National-level Teaching Team of "Modern Natural Geography" and “Green-Blue” Project in Jiangsu Province for Excellent Discipline Teams (physical geography). He won the first National Award for Young Scholars in Geographic Science and Technology (one of the Top Ten young geographers, 1992), the Ministry of Education Young Teacher Award (2001), the Ministry of Education Award for Outstanding Young Teachers (2002), and the Second National Outstanding Scholar in Geography Scientific and Technological Work (2014).
Professor Wang is also Member of Geography Teaching Steering Committee of the Ministry of Education, Chairman of Geographical Society of Jiangsu Province, Executive Director of China Quaternary Research, and Deputy Director of the Coastal and Marine Professional Committee.
