Yongfa Zhu

Yongfa Zhu is Professor and Ph. D supervisor of Department of Chemistry of Tsinghua University and deputy director of the National Center for Electron Energy Spectroscopy in Beijing. He studied at the Department of Chemistry of Nanjing University from 1981 to 1985, and obtained Bachelor of Science degree from the university. During 1985-1988, he pursued his study at Peking University, focused on catalyst surface chemistry research, and graduated with Master of Science degree. After three-year study (from 1992 to 1995), he received a doctoral degree in the Department of Chemistry of Tsinghua University while working. He studied the surface and interface of thin film materials and obtained a doctorate in science. From 1995 to 1997, he pursued postdoctoral study in the field of solid surface physical chemistry in the Department of Chemistry, Ehime University, Japan. Since July, 1988, Prof. Zhu has been working for Tsinghua University and engaged in studying thin film materials, nanomaterials, environmental catalysis, and photocatalysis. His main research interests include energy photocatalysis and environmental catalysis. He presided over National High-tech R&D Program (863 Program), National Program on Key Basic Research Project (973 Program), Key Program of National Natural Science Foundation of China(NSFC), NSFC Projects of International Cooperation and Exchanges, the General Program of NSFC, and projects supported by Special Fund for Basic Research on Scientific Instruments of NSFC. He also undertook the projects of local governments and corporations concerning adsorption purification materials, photocatalytic materials and their purification in air and water environments. He has obtained 26 national invention patents and applied for 6 patents. A number of his environmental purification technologies have been put into production line. As for his academic achievements, he has published 302 SCI papers, 29 of which are ESI high-cited papers. His papers were cited 19500 times in total and the H-factor is 76. He was also selected as China’s Highly Cited Scholar (Chemistry) in 2014-2017 by Elsevier.
