Jiwen Sun, special foreign language expert of Foreign Ministry and director of the seminar on Chinese translation law of the Chinese Translators Association, was born in Beijing in November 1955. He entered the Foreign Ministry in 1972. He studied at Mons National University and Antwerp University in Belgium from 1973 to 1976. From 1976 to 1981, he worked in the Chinese Embassy in the kingdom of Belgium and the European community. Later, he worked in the Translation Office of Foreign Ministry, the Chinese section of the United Nations headquarters in Geneva, the Chinese Embassy in Belgium, the permanent mission of China to the United Nations, the Chinese Consulate General in Strasbourg and other departments. From 1990 to 1999, he served as the foreign affairs translator of Zemin Jiang, Peng Li, Rongji Zhu and other leaders; from 2003 to 2008, he served as the foreign affairs translator of Jintao Hu, Jiabao Wen and other leaders. In 2012, he was appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of China to the Republic of Kansui.
