2. Program Duration and Credit

Three years of schooling for Master of Psychology, and the length of schooling (including suspend learning time) is no longer than five years. Excellent undergraduates who complete the course study and degree thesis in advance can apply for oral defense and graduation.
Total credit is required no less than 30 units, of which the degree course is not less than 20 units.

3. Core Courses and Introduction

Advances in Psychological
This course aims to give graduates an introduction to the progress of psychology. It is done by teachers of the school who will present their recent research.  It includes:

  • basic psychology such as cognitive neuroscience, theoretical psychology and history of psychology,  Chinese cultural psychology, et, al.
  • developmental and educational psychology
  • applied psychology such as child counseling and  therapy, social psychology, et, al.

Psychology Research Methods: Experimental Design
By studying the course psychological research methods (experimental design), graduate students can make a comprehensive understanding on psychological research methods, and get a substantial leap in reading and understanding psychological literature in English. Course contents include: the theoretical basis and procedures of psychological research, separation and control of variables, single factor experimental design, multi-factor experimental design, small sample experimental design, quasi-experimental design, and so on. Specific analysis on psychological experimental papers is used in this course.

Psychology Research Methods: SPSS
SPSS is a statistical package for beginning, intermediate, and advanced data analysis. The course aims to consolidate the knowledge of psychological statistics. With SPSS analytics, you can predict with confidence what will happen next so that you can make smarter decisions, solve problems and improve outcomes from the datasets of experimental psychology and psychological measurement. Specifically, this course will focus on scientific analysis in psychology, including the basic operations within SPSS, a variety of basic statistical tests (Z, t, F, and so on), correlation analysis, regression analysis, cluster analysis and factor analysis. In a word, SPSS software helps students gain critical analytical skills and supports more accurate and insightful institutional research and professional statistics.

Chinese cultural psychology
This course presents the essence of Chinese culture psychology in the form of series. Via lectures and seminars, it can help the graduate student gradually set up the perspective of cultural psychology, cultural self-consciousness, and cultivate the graduate student’s scientific thinking, scientific innovation, and problem-solving skills. Curriculum teaching pattern is cognitive apprenticeship. It has three stages: direct instruction, learning by imitating, and feedback. Its contents included 15 kinds of topics:3 questions about Chinese culture psychology, on the Chinese socialization, on the Chinese self, on the Chinese mindset about proudness of peace, on the Chinese rénqíng (favor), on the Chinese face, on the concept of Chinesebào(reciprocity),on the Chinese filial piety, on the Chinesecomplex, on the Chinese wisdom, on the superstitious psychology and countermeasures of Chinese, on the Chinese psychology and behavior about worship, on the literature and art psychology of Chinese, on the Chinese personality, and on the Chinese way of thinking.

Design in Child Development Research
Design in Child Development Research is a senior course for graduates majoring psychology of development and education who plan to master the methods investigating children (0-18-year-olds), aiming to cultivate their capacity to carry out developmental study independently. While understanding the basic knowledge of children's cognitive and social development, we're on the way to analyze the research idea and its methods of the frontier studies. Thus the learners could see the design and procedures for studies in child development. The techniques involved include interview, gaming, testing and survey, observation, mata-analysis, and case study. Learners are required to translate and introduce one empirical study of child development at least.

Child counseling and Psycho-therapy
The aim of this course is to help students to comprehend the basic psychological discipline and characters of child counseling and psychotherapy. To apply the method to the real life and future research.
This course is paying equal attention to both theory and practice of professional application. Course content includes three parts: the first part introduces the basic status of child counseling and treatment, development and related issues, including child evaluation and individual / group therapy. The second part focuses on various technologies, including play therapy, art therapy, reading therapy, behavior therapy, as well as the parents and child centered parents group, etc.; The third part is to protect child's rights and early preventive care.
