2. Program Duration and Credit

Three years generally, the maximum school years are not longer than 7 years (including the extension time).
20 credits of courses in total, at least 12 credits of academic courses.

3.Core Courses and Introduction

History of Western Philosophy
The course mainly represents the generation, formation, development and evolution of western philosophy during 2,500 years from the 6th century B.C. to the 20th century A.D. It can be divided into some parts: Ancient Greek Philosophy, Medieval Christian Philosophy, Modern England philosophy, French Philosophy, German Philosophy. It also can be systemized the evolution of ontology, differentiation of empiricism and rationalism in epistemology, and different research methodology. Through discussion, the course can help students comprehend the relationship between the argument, criticism, negations among different philosophical views and development and deepening of philosophical ideas.

Selected Topics of Marxist Philosophy
The purpose of the course is to help students grasp basic standpoint, viewpoint and methodology of Marxist philosophy, clarifying the difference between Marxist philosophy and other philosophical thoughts, and training the ability of analyzing and solving problems through the principles of Marxist philosophy. The main contents of course is:

  • the viewpoint of practice and its meaning in Marxism
  • the conception of matter, thought and motion of Marxism
  • Marxist conception of nature and human history
  • humanity theories in Marxism
  • Marxist Epistemology
  • the relationship between Marxist philosophy and Chinese traditional philosophy
  • the relationship between Marxist philosophy and modern development of science
  • the relationship between Marxist philosophy, Western philosophy and Foreign Marxist Philosophy

Philosophy Methodology
The course helps students to grasp the basic investigation method and approaches of academic writing, and applying correct method studying philosophical problems. The purpose of the course lies in cultivating students of philosophy basic acquisition of knowledge, academic discrimination capability, scientific research ability and academic innovation. The course content includes three parts:

  • Professor Wang Xiaoxi lectures on academic approach and method of philosophy
  • Professor Wang Lulu lectures on literature collection, topic selection, thesis proposal and writing
  • Professors from other universities are invited to lecture on thesis writing and submitting, method and technique of thesis writing

Selected Readings of the Original Works of Marxist Philosophy
The purpose of the course is to help students grasp basic standpoint, viewpoint and methodology of Marxist philosophy through some classical authors of Marxism, clarifying formation and development of Marxist philosophy, deepening the cognition and understanding of Marxist philosophy principles, and training the ability of analyzing and solving problems through Marxist philosophy. The main content of the course includes the following components:

  • the early philosophical works of Marx, including Economic and Philosophic Manuscripts of 1844,Theses on Feuerbach, etc.
  • Philosophy works coauthored by Marx and Engels, mainly including The German ideology, The communist Manifesto, etc.
  • Philosophical works and letters of Engels, especially in his old age, including Anti Duhring,  Ludwig Feuerbach and the End of German Classical Philosophy, etc.
  • Philosophy works of Lenin, mainly Materialism and Empiriocriticism, On Dialectics, Philosophy Notes, etc.

Studies on Ethics theory
The aim of the course is to help students understand the basic theoretical issues of ethics, grasping the scientific research method, reflecting and probing the new academic theoretical problems based on comprehensively understanding the ethics research status of our country, observing social phenomenon combining theory and practice, continuously improving the ability of cognition and solving social moral issues. The course is presented in the form of specific topics, comprehensively introducing the highest academic platform and newest development trend of ethics, deeply elucidating some important categories and theoretical problems of ethics, meanwhile, guiding students reading classical original works, truly promoting theoretical quality of students.

History of Chinese Philosophy
This course is designed to introduce traditional Chinese philosophy by absorbing recent academic achievements in the research of Chinese philosophy, analyzing its advantages and disadvantages, and reinterpreting and reconstructing its system in terms of reasonableness. It will cover and discuss:

  • Pre-Qin Chinese philosophy
  • Chinese philosophy in Han-Tang Dynasties
  • Neo-Daoism, including rationalism and sentimentalism, in Wei-Jin Dynasties
  • Chinese philosophy in Song-Yuan-Ming-Qing Dynasties
  • modern Chinese philosophy

The objective of this course is to help students understand and inherit the quintessence of Chinese philosophy, to improve their capacity of critical, independent and philosophical reflection, to strengthen their ability of analyzing and solving problems, and to train them to be highly competent persons with good character by systematically introducing the main schools in traditional Chinese philosophy and their development with critical comments and discussion.
