Philosophy

1. Program Description 

The Philosophy program aims to cultivate the high-quality compound talents with a keen sense of philosophy and rich humanistic feelings.Through a combination of general education and professional education,elite education and civil education to train the high-quality talents with the broaden horizon,a solid foundation,the coexistence of profound professional skills and other abilities to facing the future and to meet the needs of social development in the 21st century.After graduation from this program,the students can be engaged in teaching and academic research in the colleges,universities and research institutes, and they can also go in for the specific work such as ideological and political affairs in the state administrative organs,enterprises and institutions.

2. Program Duration and Credit

This is a four-year undergraduate program, which can be completed within a minimum of three years and a maximum of seven years.

A total of 152 credits are required upon the completion of the program.

3. Curriculum

Three modules of courses are offered for the program: Basic Curriculum, Essential Curriculum, and Elective Curriculum. The Basic and Essential curricula are compulsory for a Bachelor’s degree. 

The Elective Curriculum in the list includes extended disciplinary courses offered by the school into which an individual student is admitted, as well as cross disciplinary courses offered by other schools. Students can choose the extended and cross disciplinary courses according to their personal interests and career plans; however, credits should be approved by the School.

The Foundation of logic is a public foundation course that improve the students' thinking ability and cultivate students' rational thinking habit. Through learning of this course, students can be familiar with the basic forms of thinking and the basic rules of logic and simple logic method, cultivating and improving the students' thinking ability, expression ability and cognitive ability. This course without first courses, nor is to replace of course.

The course of Foundation of Logic will teach the significance, methods, laws and common errors of all kinds of everyday thinking, such as concepts, propositions and inferences. Students can understand the basic meanings and the correct expression of every form of thinking through repeated lectures and discussions, students can also develop fast and reasonable communication skills, proven abilities and rebuttal skills through continuous practical exercise. The Course of Foundation of Logic can provide the correct basis of thinking for the everyday thinking, discussions and exchange, academic research of students.

Let the students understand the elementary theory, the viewpoint and the method of the psychology and make them be able to apply related theories and methods to understanding, analyzing and solving some of the problems, and laid a foundation for learning other courses.

This course is a basic course in the integration of knowledge and theory. It is the basic course of liberal arts students, and also the basic course of other related subjects. It systematically introduces some basic knowledge and theories of psychology as well as research methods. Generally includes the following content: the introduction, mainly introduces the study object of psychology, nature, subject orientation, theory and development history of the subject.  According to the characteristics and levels of this course, it lectures about the basic theory and knowledge of aesthetics. The aim of this course is to help students to comprehend the basic theory and historical development of aesthetics, and to master the general rules of the appreciation and creation of beauty. Through literature and art appreciation, enhance students’ level of aesthetic and art appreciation, improve the comprehensive quality of college students.

  This course is a public compulsory course, in order to lay the basic knowledge about aesthetics for the philosophy students. Improve students’ understanding of aesthetic theory through the teaching of basic aesthetic knowledge, enhance their cognitive level and aesthetic quality as well.

    The course’s main contents are as follows: the historical development and the objects of aesthetics; the essence issue of beauty; the production and form of the beauty (social beauty, natural beauty, artistic beauty); the form of beauty and the beauty in form; the category of beauty; the nature and characteristics of aesthetic perception; aesthetic psychology; the individuality and generality of aesthetic perception and so on.

The aim of the courses is to make students learn and master the basic theory and method of Marxist ethics, and understand and analyze the moral phenomenon in a scientific way, so as to strengthen the consciousness of moral self-discipline and the ability of moral practice and moral reflection, and to perfect self, the society and social

his course is a core course for the philosophy majors, and the nature is the teaching of the basic theory of ethics, it includes three parts: the basic theory, system of norms, practice and application. its aim is to cultivate the students' theoretical attainment. The point of “the basic theory” is to illuminate the origin, nature, structure, function and the law of development of the morality, which is the basic theory of the ethics; The point of “system of norms ” is to illuminate the moral principles、moral codes and the moral categories,and basing on which to analyse the specific issues and moral requirements of the three main areas, highlight the guidance to daily life of the ethics; the aim of the part of the “practice and application”is to enhance the students’ ability of moral choice and moral evaluation and to enhance the consciousness of moral culture.

The course is to study the theories and practice of religions. Through which the students will get basic knowledge of certain religions. The course is also teach theories which help to study religions.

The main contents of the course include the concept and the principles of religion, the philosophies of religions, the methods of religious studies, the nature of religion, the elements and basic functions of religions, the history and current situation of religions. The course requires students to understand religious thoughts, and apply their knowledge to explain the phenomenon of religions.

The aim is to help students grasp the general characteristics of modern philosophy of science and technology through philosophical reflection on science and technology, and to understand the relationship between scientific technological advancement and sustainable development correctly in order to abandon one-sided scientific instrumentalism, finally realizing the organic unification of society and humanistic concern.

This course seeks to have a systematic philosophical reflection on the essence of science and the role of science and technology in social development. In addition to introduction, the whole course is divided into four parts, namely, views of nature, views of science, views of technology and STS. The course presents a comprehensive analysis of discipline orientation of philosophy of science, the relationship between human and nature, demarcation of science, the structure of science, the origin of science, the mode of scientific development, scientific methods, the spirit of science, the evaluation of science, the nature of technology, the nature and value of post-modern science and technology, Science, Technology and Society (STS) and other major contents.
