Yi Yang

Yi Yang, originally named Jingru Yang, was born in 1919 in Xuyi, Anhui Province (now Jiangsu Province). She is a famous translator and writer. She started working in the Foreign Language Department of NNU in 1960 and retired in 1980. She studied in the Foreign Language Department at National Southwest Associated University in Kunming and National Centre University in Chongqing. She was a translator for the Translation Committee of Nanjing National Compilation and Translation Museum and a professor in the Foreign Languages Department of NNU. She began to translate in 1936 and translated the famous novel Wuthering Heights. The translation of Wuthering Heights was initiated by her and is regarded as a classic. She also translated the novels Sun Will Never Set, Russian Character, Great Moment, Songs of Innocence and Experience and wrote a book of Children's Literature titled Do Your own Things, which was translated into many languages and published abroad. Her works have had a profound influence on the development of contemporary Chinese literature. Yi Yang loves literature and translation and has never stopped writing. Although she is over 100 years old, she still reads books, reads the newspaper and writes articles every day. During the past two years, she has published two books, Memories of the Young and Return of the Soul. On May 29th, 2019, the 7th Nanjing Literature and Art Award was announced, and Yi Yang, as a centenarian, won the Lifetime Achievement Award.
