Introduction: The paper entitled “The origination of creative culture and its function”, originally published in Chongqing Social Sciences then republished in the journal Xinhua Digest on September 5th, 2017. With the development of information technology and benefiting from pop culture, the Maker Culture emerged. Maker culture takes innovation and individuation as its core beliefs, the relentless pursuit of technological innovation as its primary driving force, the grass roots DIY spirit as its foundation, and open-mindedness and sharing as its humanistic values. Moreover, the Maker Culture has multiple functions such as de-centering, innovation and education therefore it keeps challenging the extant elite culture. In terms of universities’ innovative education, the Maker Culture can help promote the transformation of traditional education modes as well as integrate itself into campus culture to inspire exploration in the areas of scientific research and innovation in a novel way.
